Lap Timing Revealed: The BMW M2 CS is now the fastest compact car after setting a record at the Nürburgring on April 11, 2025. BMW M engineer Jorg Weidinger drove the car around the 20.8-kilometre Nürburgring-Nordschleife track in just 7 minutes and 25.5 seconds. This beats the previous compact car record by 8 seconds.
Weidinger also held the earlier record for a BMW M2 model and in which he set in April 2023 with a time of 7 minutes and 38.7 seconds. Two years later, he improved that time by 13 seconds and became the first to go under in 7 minutes and 30 seconds in this category. The new record has been showing the BMW M2 CS’s amazing performance and BMW M GmbH’s engineering expertise.
Other BMW models like the M4 CS, M4 CSL, and M3 CS — all mid-size performance cars — have also completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife in under 7 minutes and 30 seconds. The BMW M4 CSL holds the fastest lap time ever for a BMW production car, with an official time of 7 minutes and 18.137 seconds.
Lap Timing Revealed: Back in April 2023, Jorg Weidinger set a lap time of 7 minutes and 38.7 seconds in a BMW M2. Two years later, he improved that by 13 seconds with the new M2 CS, finishing in 7 minutes and 25.5 seconds. This not only broke the previous M2 record but also made it the first compact car to complete the Nürburgring in under 7 minutes and 30 seconds. The new time highlights the M2 CS’s outstanding performance and the engineering skill of BMW M GmbH.
The BMW M2 CS uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine that produces 530 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. The record-setting car had some upgrades, including special engine mounts, adaptive M suspension, and high-performance brakes. These changes were also reduced the car’s weight by 30 kg compared to the regular M2.
