Stellantis India CEO: European carmaker Stellantis says that for car companies to plan and grow in India, there needs to be a long-term, stable policy that is applied the same way in all the states.
Stellantis, which sells Jeep and Citroën cars in India, believes that a uniform policy across the country will help in the auto industry make and follow the long-term of business plans.
Speaking to PTI in Paris, Stellantis India CEO and MD Shailesh Hazela said that any investor has been coming to India wants to see clear and consistent policies for the long run.
Then Hazela said,”So, what we want from the government is that any policy they make should stay for a longer time,”.when asked about what steps the government can take to boost the Indian auto industry.
Stellantis India CEO: Stellantis India CEO Shailesh Hazela said it would be very helpful if policies related to electric vehicles (EVs) and taxation were the same across to the country. This would allow the companies to plan their business on a national level instead of making different plans for each another state.
He added, “If the government can bring in uniform policies – and they definitely can – it will help the auto industry plan much better and more clearly.”
Hazela gave the example that different states currently have different EV policies, which creates confusion for automakers.
He also said that in the past few years, Stellantis has built supporting infrastructure in India, and now the company plans to expand further, especially with the Citroën brand.
A plan is already in progress to grow Citroën’s presence in India by increasing its sales network and launching new products.
