The Bengaluru City Police have set up child-friendly rooms at three stations—Vijayanagar, Magadi Road, and Govindaraja Nagar—to make law enforcement more approachable. Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, heading the West Division, introduced this initiative to create a safe, welcoming space for children visiting police stations.
The concept behind these rooms is simple yet powerful
To replace the traditionally intimidating atmosphere of the police stations with spaces that are warm, engaging, and educational. Each room features bright and colorful walls, showcases cartoon posters, and displays bookstands filled with children’s magazines. Toys, games, and charts—like those on “good touch” and “bad touch”—teach children personal safety in a fun, engaging way.
The initiative reflects a deeper mission to build trust between law enforcement and the community.
To build trust between law enforcement and the community, “Open House” programs invite students to visit police stations, interact with officers, and learn about laws through skits and activities. Officers also explain protections like the POCSO Act in child-friendly language, helping children understand and report abuse.
The rooms are not just for children
Police stations offer comfortable seating for women and seniors, along with wheelchair-accessible ramps to ensure inclusivity. Student artwork from local colleges adds a creative and community-inspired touch to the space.
This initiative reflects a broader vision of community
Bengaluru Police are turning stations into welcoming spaces to support vulnerable groups and reduce crimes against children. These child-friendly rooms help ease young visitors’ anxiety and build trust in law enforcement. With growing support and space permitting, the initiative will expand citywide, setting a progressive example for urban policing.
