NOIDA: The groundwater department conducted inspections for rainwater harvesting systems within the residential societies across Noida and Greater Noida last week. The survey revealed that 140 of the 164 societies had non-functioning rainwater harvesting systems, while 10 societies lacked in any such facilities.
14 societies were found to have this operational rainwater harvesting systems. Officials have noted that the 140 societies with non-operational systems had rainwater harvesting pits that were filled with stagnant water and accumulated debris, which was contributing to groundwater contamination.
Last year, the ground water department and Greater Noida Authority team have inspected the rain water harvesting system in over 100 societies. In this, the rain water harvesting system was found choked in about 90 societies and After all this, the ground water department was asked to clean the system. However, even after the arrival of monsoon, the rain water harvesting system was not cleaned.

Groundwater level had been fallen in Noida and Greater Noida because of which they are listed under critical category. The government formed a district level coordination committee and entrusted the committee with the responsibility of solving the problem.
