Kangana Ranaut, the firebrand actor who turned into a politician. In her recent conversation on the Atman in Ravi podcast, she speaks openly about her new political life, revealing about the connections between her personal aspirations and the demands of public services. Now serving as a Member of Parliament from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, Kangana admitted that politics hasn’t brought her joy—it have just brought her broken drains, potholes, and a flood of expectations that she had never signed up for.
“I wouldn’t say that I’m enjoying it,” she confessed.
“It’s a very different kind of work, more like a social service work. This hasn’t been in my background. I’ve never thought of serving people.” Her words reflects a growing discomfort within her grassroots in the nature of her role. Constituents approach her with hyper-local issues of damaged roads, broken naalis—and expect her to fix all of them personally. “They don’t care,” she said. “They come to me with panchayat-level problems and say, ‘You have money, use your own money.’
For someone who built her career on the basis of her bold performances and self-expressions, the shift to politics seems confused. Kangana described herself as someone who has always lived her life for herself. “I’ve lived a very selfish kind of life. I want a big house, a big car, I want diamonds. I want to look good. That’s the kind of life I’ve lived,” she said, adding to this she doesn’t see her journey as one to sacrifice or service.
Her honesty seems refreshing and revealing
Many public figures have imagined of her selfless dedication of emotional and psychological toll that politics can take away. she’s not pretending to be saviour or a reformer instead of that she’s dealing with the reality of being a thrust into the role that always demands empathy, patience and a willingness to engage with people and their problem that are often messy.
When she was asked of becoming Prime Minister someday
“I don’t think I’m competent to be the PM of India, nor do I have the necessary passion ”. Her response wasn’t just a rejection towards power but it was a clear rejection of the idea that her life should only be defined by the public service. “I don’t fancy that kind of life, and I don’t wish that upon anyone,” she added.
Kangana’s remarks have sparked the debate
With some praising her honesty and others questioning her commitment. But she have cleared of the unfamiliar terrain that she’s doing it on her own way and style. Whether it’s a political chapter that becomes a turning point.
