In a candid chat with Siddharth Kannan, veteran actor Puneet Issar painted a vivid picture of Sunny Deol’s grand travel habits—likening him into royality.
According to Issar, Deol doesn’t just show up on set; he arrives with a full-fledged entourage, complete with personal chefs, a gym setup, and even a portable badminton court.
But what truly sets him apart is that he never lets this lavish lifestyle become a burden on the film’s budget.
Sunny is a king
Wherever he goes, he travels like one,” Issar shared, recalling their time filming the 1997 war drama Border. He described how Deol would bring along a truck loaded with his personal gear, yet always offered to help others by carrying their equipment too. “He’ll ask if you want to load anything in his truck—he’s that thoughtful,” Issar added.
In an industry where the cost of celebrity entourages is increasingly under scrutiny, Issar’s comments offer a refreshing contrast. He emphasized that Deol has always paid for his own comforts, never passing the expense onto producers. “That’s why I call him a king,” Issar said. “Even Salman Khan is like that. They need their routines, their workouts—but they handle it themselves.”
Issar also pointed out that this isn’t a new phenomenon. Bollywood legends like Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, and Dilip Kumar also traveled with their own teams. The difference, he noted, lies in how stars like Sunny and Salman manage their expenses responsibly.
As the film industry continues to grapple with rising production costs, Deol’s approach stands out—not just for its grandeur, but for the professionalism and generosity behind it.
>You’re shooting in the middle of a jungle, but one car will be sent to the city three hours away specifically to get you that five-star burger you want. You don’t get into the process of it,” he said.
