Last month, Netflix were released a teaser for Stranger Things Season 5 with about 20 seconds of new footage. Here’s a quick look at what we saw:
- Joyce Byers holding an ax, protecting three people in a barn
- Karen Wheeler hugging her daughter, Holly
- Lucas visiting Max, who is in a coma at the hospital
- Steve and Dustin looking up inside a building filled with Upside Down tendrils
- Eleven screaming, holding her head
- Mike Wheeler holding back Joyce, someone who looks like Will, and three new characters
- A group of soldiers were aiming guns at an Upside-Down rift
- Will, scared, shouting “Run!” twice while looking at something off-screen
There isn’t much to figure out from these short clips, but hey, it’s better than nothing! I’m curious that how much of this teaser footage will appear in today’s full trailer.
The story continues…
Stranger Things Season 5 will be the final main season, but Netflix isn’t done with the franchise yet.
They’ve already released a spin-off: Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a stage play about the origins of Henry Creel and how he became Vecna. It’s now playing on Broadway after a year in London’s West End.
Netflix also plans to release an animated spin-off called Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 in 2026. This will be set in 1985, between the seasons 2 and 3, and will follow new and familiar characters fighting a new supernatural threat in Hawkins.
There’s also another TV spin-off rumored to be in development by the Upside-Down Pictures, the production company run by the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer. But details about this project or its release date were still unknown.
When is Stranger Things Season 5 coming out?
Stranger Things Season 5 won’t arrive all at once — it’s coming in three parts:
- Volume 1: 4 episodes dropping on Wednesday, November 26 (5pm PT)
- Volume 2: 3 episodes releasing on Thursday, December 25 (Christmas Day, 5pm PT)
- The Finale: The last episode will premiere on Wednesday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve, 5pm PT)
These dates are for the US and nearby regions (North and South America). In places like Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa, new episodes will arrive one day later.
Fans can use these times to figure out when exactly the episodes will stream in their local time zones.
Did Netflix miss a chance with the Stranger Things Season 5 trailer release?
Some fans were a bit disappointed that the trailer didn’t come out on July 15, the show’s 9th anniversary. The first season of Stranger Things premiered on July 15, 2016, so many thought it would be perfect to release the final season’s trailer on the same day.
Some clues even pointed to a July 15 release. But since the official Stranger Things Instagram hinted something big was coming on July 16, it made more sense that the trailer would drop then — which it did.
Stranger Things Season 5 Trailer Launch Date Confirmed
How do we know the Stranger Things Season 5 teaser is dropping today? Because Netflix told us yesterday, July 15!
Netflix used its own and Stranger Things’ official social media accounts to announce that the final season’s first trailer would premiere on July 16. So that’s official confirmation!
What’s interesting is the timing. Usually, Netflix releases a teaser about two months before a show’s debut, then the full trailer about a month before.
But Stranger Things Season 5’s first trailer is coming out four months before the season airs. Why? No one really knows — but we’re definitely not complaining!
Here we go, Stranger Things fans!
It’s almost time, Hellfire Club members! Stranger Things Season 5 is still four months away, but Netflix is breaking tradition by releasing the first official trailer today, July 16.
