Smriti Irani Responds to Fan Asking If She’s Quitting Politics for ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ Comeback

Smriti Irani has made it clear that she is not taking a break from politics. She is returning to television with the reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The first look of the show came out a few days ago and made fans feel nostalgic.

What Smriti Said

During a recent chat on her X (formerly Twitter) account, a fan wished Smriti Irani luck for her return to TV and hoped it was just a short break from politics. The fan wrote:

“Dear @smritiirani all the best on your return to TV. Hope this is just a brief sabbatical you’re your politics.”

Smriti replied clearly:

“No sabbatical. I’ve worked in both media and politics for 25 years. I only took a break when I became a Cabinet Minister. I’ve never ignored my party work, and I never will.”

Another fan tweeted to Smriti Irani:

“With all due respect for your decision to return in to media. Thousands of your admirers, including me, would love to see your active presence in politics too—especially with the Bengal and UP elections coming up. PS – My mother was super happy to hear this news.”

Smriti warmly replied:

“My Pranaam to your Ma … be assured of my active political contribution during the forthcoming elections as assigned by sangathan.”

Smriti’s Political Career

Smriti Irani is a senior women leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She has been in Indian politics since 2011. She served as a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat from 2011 to 2019, and then as a Lok Sabha MP from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, from 2019 to 2024.

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Returns

The iconic show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is making its much-awaited comeback. Smriti Irani returns as Tulsi, and Amar Upadhyay is back as Mihir. The story follows Tulsi, the ideal daughter-in-law and the daughter of a pandit, who is married into the wealthy Virani family.

The reboot will premiere on July 29 at 10:30 PM on Star Plus and JioHotstar.
