A 37-year-old woman from Hyderabad, Sajida Begum, has found herself trapped in the Muscat, Oman, after falling for the victim to a job scam. Her daughter, Habeeba Begum, is now pleading with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to help bring her mother back home safely.
Sajida, a resident of Kalapathar in Hyderabad
A local travel agent promised her a job as a housemaid in Oman. Facing financial struggles, she accepted the offer and flew to Muscat on June 25, 2025, using a tourist visa. But once she reached Oman, everything changed. Her employers made her work in several homes for more than 16 hours daily. They denied her food, rest, and proper accommodation. They also took away her phone, cutting off all communication with her family.
According to Habeeba
The employer is holding her mother in a travel office in Muscat and refusing to let her return to India unless she pays ₹2 lakh, which they claim is a recruitment fee. The authorities issued Sajida only a 30-day tourist visa and never provided a legal work permit, making her employment status illegal under Oman’s laws.
Habeeba wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, asking for urgent help
She explained the abuse her mother is facing and requested immediate action to rescue her. MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan also highlighted the case by posting about it on social media and tagging the Indian Embassy in Muscat, urging them to step in.
This incident sheds light
Job scams targeting vulnerable women in India are increasing. Agents lure many women with false promises of high salaries and good working conditions abroad. Once the women reach foreign countries, the agents exploit and trap them. These agents misuse tourist visas and skip legal steps, leaving the victims without any protection.
Local activists and the victim’s family are now calling on the Indian government
To take strict action against the agents involved and ensure for Sajida’s safe return. They have also urge the authorities to raise awareness about such scams and provide better support for the job seekers, especially women who belong from economically weaker backgrounds.
As of now
Sajida remains stuck in Oman, hoping for help. Her daughter continues to fight for her release, hoping that the MEA and Indian Embassy will act quickly to bring her mother home.
