Himachal Pradesh continues with unforgiving monsoon disturbance. The downpour is over the hill state for continuous days from which over 260 roads including 176 in Mandi district along have been unusable due to landslides and flooding.
Red Alert Issued
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a ‘red’ alert for Sunday in Kangra, Sirmaur, and Mandi, warning of extremely heavy rainfall—which means over 204.4 mm in a single day. In comparison, rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm qualifies as very heavy.
Orange Alerts Extended
Other districts—Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Solan, Shimla, and Kullu—have been placed under an ‘orange’ alert, cautioning against possible flash floods and landslides through Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday.
Trail of Destruction Since the monsoon began
On 20 June, 72 people have lost their lives in which 45 of them have faced tragedy like flood, cloudbursts and landslides. In Mandi which is one of the worst hit area 14 people were killed on everyday basis with search operations going on on everyday basis for 31 people.

Around 300 power transformers and 281 drinking water schemes have been disrupted
The threat of landslides, flash floods, and waterlogging looms large, prompting the public to avoid water bodies and vulnerable zones

Last year’s monsoon toll was grim
With over 550 lives lost. Officials hope swift alerts and community cooperation this year will help prevent a repeat of that catastrophe.
