Ahead of a major discussion in Parliament, the Congress party has again brought attention to key events surrounding Operation Sindoor

Ahead of a major discussion in Parliament, the Congress party has again brought attention to key events surrounding Operation Sindoor and has raised concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of stopping the military operation. The Lok Sabha will begin the debate on Monday, followed by the Rajya Sabha the next day. Lawmakers plan to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and the abrupt halt of Operation Sindoor across 16 hours of intense parliamentary scrutiny.

Jairam Ramesh Congress Leader

He has outlined the background that is leading up to the debate. He pointed out that since May 10, President Trump has claimed 26 times that he stopped Operation Sindoor by threatening to cut off trade with India. These statements sparked controversy and raised questions about foreign influence on India’s military decisions.

The Congress party has long demanded

For a special two-day session of Parliament to discuss the operation, which was abruptly halted. Although that request was initially ignored, the upcoming debate is seen as a step in the right direction. Ramesh has emphasized that the discussion is necessary to understand the full scope of what had happened and to hold those responsible accountable.

The party has also highlighted several key developments:

The Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 triggered Operation Sindoor but remains unresolved, as authorities have yet to bring the attackers to justice.

Security agencies have linked earlier incidents in Poonch, Gangagir, and Gulmarg to the same militant group.

  • On April 24, the Defence Minister convened, chaired, and addressed an all-party meeting, where political leaders raised, debated, and criticized the intelligence failures that led up to the attacks.
  • On May 30, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan revealed, outlined, and analyzed the tactical mistakes made during the first two days of Operation Sindoor.
  • On June 29, India’s Defence Attaché in Indonesia stated, warned, and suggested that political decisions interfered with, delayed, and complicated military actions.
  • On July 4, Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Rahul R. Singh disclosed, examined, and confirmed that Indian forces encountered, identified, and struggled with Chinese military technology during the operation.
  • On July 14, Jammu & Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha admitted, acknowledged, and accepted that the Pahalgam attack was a major security failure.

Congress has also criticized the Indian media for spreading exaggerated claims during the operation, allegedly influenced by the government media managers.

The party is calling for transparency and accountability, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address all in Parliament directly. They believe that only a full and honest discussion can restore the public trust and ensure that such lapses do not happen again.
