Trump and Putin Meet in Alaska Amid Global Anticipation Over Ukraine War

Anchorage, Alaska — The much-anticipated meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is about to get underway in Alaska, drawing global attention. Late Friday night, Air Force One touched down at Elmendorf Air Base, where Trump is set to personally welcome Putin. The talks come at a critical juncture, as the war in Ukraine drags into its fourth year, with hopes that this summit might pave the way for a peaceful resolution.

Tensions were evident even before the leaders arrived, as protesters took to the streets of Anchorage voicing fears that Ukraine’s territorial rights could be compromised in any potential agreement. European leaders have also expressed disapproval over the red carpet welcome planned for Putin, citing Russia’s ongoing aggression. According to Kremlin officials, following the talks, Putin will pay homage to Soviet pilots who ferried U.S. aircraft to Siberia during World War II. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed optimism that India could play a decisive role in bringing the conflict to an end.
