CBI’s Big Win: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the Punjab National Bank (PNB) loan scam, has started the process to bring back Nirav Modi’s brother, Neeshal Modi, from Belgium.
An official said, “We have started the process to bring back Neeshal Modi in India, who is accused in the PNB scam. A chargesheet has already been filed against him and bringing back him to India is important for the investigation. The CBI has sent an extradition request to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).”
Sources told India Today that Neeshal Modi created fake or shell companies to help his brother Nirav Modi move the money that was illegally taken from Punjab National Bank, which amounts to ₹13,000 crore.

CBI’s Big Win: Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against Neeshal Modi and Nirav Modi. The CBI has also charged Neeshal Modi with the criminal conspiracy, cheating, breach of trust and corruption for bank. Officials also said that even though Neeshal is a Belgian citizen, he can be extradited to India because the crime happened here. India and Belgium have an extradition treaty.
A special court in Mumbai under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act has asked Neeshal Modi to appear on September 25 at 11 a.m.
The court warned that if he fails to appear in the court after that his assets will be permanently seized.
India has given all the required and fulfilled all the documents to the UK authorities for the extradition of Nirav Modi and Neeshal Modi.
A senior official said, “The UK authorities told us they are reviewing the documents. Extradition and arrest processes are complicated, so it may take little some time.”
Nirav Modi is accused of cheating Punjab National Bank (PNB) of ₹13,000 crore. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also begun the process in India to extradite Neeshal Modi from Belgium.
