If you missed Suriya’s Karuppu in theatres, the film has been playing on streaming for months now — and its digital debut remains one of the most-watched events of the Tamil calendar. Amazon Prime Video began streaming the film on June 12, 2026, announcing the premiere on June 8 with the caption “god mode ON,” according to reports. The film is available in Tamil alongside dubbed versions in Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada, with the Telugu version streaming under the title Veerabhadrudu.

What made the announcement notable was the speed of it. Karuppu arrived on Prime Video within a roughly 28-day theatrical window, a strikingly short gap that reportedly surprised trade watchers — especially since the film was still drawing crowds. Some fans took to social media asking why the digital release could not have waited longer, while others welcomed the chance to revisit it at home.

Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu is a fantasy action drama built around the folk deity Karuppusamy — a guardian god who takes human form as a lawyer to take on a corrupt legal system. The story centres on Mattancherry Sukumaran (Indrans) and his daughter Binu (Anagha), who travel to Chennai for her surgery, only to be robbed of the gold meant to fund her treatment. When the system fails them, they turn to the deity — and Suriya enters as the divine force himself, locked in battle with a cunning lawyer, Baby Kannan, played by RJ Balaji.

The film’s theatrical run was anything but ordinary. Karuppu was originally slated for May 14, 2026, but financial-settlement issues at the production end forced a one-day delay, and the film finally opened on May 15. Once it did, there was no stopping it: reports put the global gross at over ₹300 crore — one outlet cited ₹304.15 crore — with the Tamil Nadu share alone estimated at ₹150 crore or more. It was widely described as Suriya’s biggest career hit.

Behind the scenes, the production has its share of lore. In an interview after release, RJ Balaji revealed that the script was first narrated to Thalapathy Vijay as a potential final film, and was later taken to Suriya, who loved it. The film was produced by S. R. Prakashbabu and S. R. Prabhu under the Dream Warrior Pictures banner, with music by Sai Abhyankkar and cinematography by G. K. Vishnu. Trisha Krishnan plays the female lead, and the ensemble includes Natarajan Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Supreeth Reddy and Mansoor Ali Khan.

One detail reportedly delighted Telugu viewers: unlike the other dubs, Veerabhadrudu streams on Prime Video in a dedicated standalone listing, preserving the localised theatrical cut that Telugu audiences responded to, rather than a straight dub.

So what next? The film closes with a teaser hinting at a sequel — suggesting the deity could next take aim at parliament after reforming the judiciary. No official word on a second instalment has emerged yet, so treat that as a tease for now. But one thing is settled: as of today, Karuppu is streaming in full on Amazon Prime Video, and its record-smashing June arrival is the date Tamil cinema will remember this year.
