Washington: Haryana gangster Himanshu Bhau, wanted in India in 18 criminal cases and the subject of an Interpol Red Notice since August 2023, is being held by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Henderson Detention Center in Nevada, with India now working to expedite his deportation, officials said.

According to the US detainee locator, the two men in custody are listed as Himanshu Sigroha and Neeraj Kaushik. Officials identify them as Bhau and his associate Neeraj Faridpuria. Bhau was tracked to Las Vegas and arrested on Thursday, October 22, while Faridpuria was picked up after removing an ankle monitor; he had been detained earlier this year and released on bail.

Bhau’s real name is reported as Himanshu Ritoliya, a native of Rohtak in Haryana. He faces charges of murder, attempted murder, extortion, intimidation and forgery across the 18 cases registered against him in India. The Interpol Red Notice against him has been in force since August 2023, marking more than two years of international efforts to track him down.

The Red Notice placed Bhau on the radar of law enforcement agencies across the world, and his eventual detention in Nevada is the result of coordination between Indian agencies and their US counterparts. For Haryana police, which had been pursuing his network for years, the arrest represents a major breakthrough.

His gang had claimed responsibility for the firing outside the Gurugram home of YouTuber Elvish Yadav in August 2025, an incident that put him back at the centre of public attention and intensified efforts to locate him abroad. The shooting underscored how a fugitive operating from overseas could still direct violent activity in India.

Indian authorities are now seeking to fast-track his deportation through immigration proceedings, a route that is often quicker than formal extradition under the India-US extradition treaty of 1997. There are no US criminal charges against either man, and neither ICE nor the FBI has issued a public statement on the detentions so far.

There is a recent precedent for this approach. Anmol Bishnoi was detained in the United States in 2024 and was deported to India on November 19, 2025, after immigration proceedings concluded in India’s favour. That case demonstrated how deportation through immigration channels can succeed where formal extradition might take far longer.

Bhau’s detention marks a significant development in the long-running effort to bring back fugitives who fled abroad to evade Indian law enforcement. With the Red Notice active for over two years, his arrest in Nevada brings India a step closer to securing custody of a man accused of running one of Haryana’s most notorious extortion networks.

Officials have not indicated a timeline for the deportation proceedings, but the focus now shifts to the immigration hearings that will determine how quickly both men can be returned to India to face trial in the cases pending against them.
