Brahmastra Part Two: Dev carries one of the strangest release-date stories in recent Bollywood memory. In April 2023, director Ayan Mukerji took to social media with a detailed note: Part 2 would arrive in December 2026, and Part 3 in December 2027, with both films to be shot together so they could release closer apart. It was a confident, specific plan. The problem is what has — and has not — happened since. It is now October 2026, no shoot has begun, and December 2026 is, for all practical purposes, no longer on the table.

That is the essential context for anyone searching for the release date today. The December 2026 date was real — it came from the director himself, not a rumour mill — but it was announced before a finished script existed. Mukerji was candid about that at the time, saying the scripts for Parts 2 and 3 needed more time to be perfected. Then came the detour: Mukerji went on to direct War 2, and as recently as March 2025, Ranbir Kapoor confirmed publicly that Brahmastra 2 would move into pre-production only after the War 2 chapter closed. A film that has not started pre-production cannot release in two months. No revised official date has been announced.

What the sequel is actually about, though, has been clear since the first film’s final minutes. Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (September 2022) ended by pointing straight at its next chapter: the story of Dev, Shiva’s father, whose awakening was teased in the climax, and of Amrita, Shiva’s mother, glimpsed in a flashback that strongly suggested Deepika Padukone for the role. Part Two: Dev is expected to run on two tracks — Dev’s own dark, power-hungry arc in the past, and the present-day fallout as Shiva confronts what his father has become.

The casting picture is half-official, half-reported. Ranbir Kapoor is confirmed to return as Shiva. The biggest reported casting is Ranveer Singh as Dev — a piece of news that has circulated via entertainment outlets and now sits on the film’s reference pages, though a formal announcement is still awaited. Alia Bhatt is expected back as Isha, alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Mouni Roy and Shah Rukh Khan reprising their roles, with Deepika Padukone, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Anupam Kher named among the new additions in published cast listings. Treat the unannounced names as reported rather than confirmed.

Mukerji’s stated ambition has not shrunk in the interim. His 2023 note promised that Parts 2 and 3 would be “bigger and more ambitious” than Part 1, and the decision to develop and shoot the two films together was meant to compress the gap between them. Part 1’s worldwide gross of nearly Rs 400 crore gave the studio every reason to protect the franchise rather than rush it — and with Part 1’s budget understood to be part of a three-film Rs 500 crore-plus plan, the economics of the Astraverse depend on getting the sequels right.

So where does that leave the release date? Officially: December 2026, per the last formal announcement — but effectively postponed, with no new date declared. Realistically, the film needs a full pre-production, a long shoot, and heavy VFX, which points to a date the makers will set only when cameras are close to rolling. The sequel is definitely happening; the calendar is not. We will update this page as soon as an official revised date or a shoot commencement is announced.
