Devara: Part 2 is officially moving. After months of speculation — including rumours that the sequel had been shelved — producer Sudhakar Mikkilineni has confirmed that principal photography begins in May 2026, with a theatrical release targeted for 2027. For Jr NTR fans, the long silence is finally over.
The confirmation came in January 2026, when Mikkilineni addressed the rumours head-on. The apparent quiet around the project, he explained, was down to scheduling complexities and a deliberate decision to take time before the next phase. With Jr NTR committed to other projects, the makers wanted the sequel to get the scale, preparation and focused production timeline it needs rather than rushing into it. His words to fans were unambiguous: “We will begin shooting for it in May this year. We plan to release it next year, in 2027. The film will surely be another blockbuster hit.”
The delay, it turns out, was also creative. Koratala Siva reportedly went back into the script after Part 1’s reception — a film that opened to strong box office numbers but divided opinion on pacing and emotional depth. The rewrite aims to fix exactly those weaknesses, with a stronger emotional core and clearer answers to the mysteries Part 1 left hanging. About 25 minutes of the sequel were already filmed during the first part’s schedule, giving the production a head start.

What Part 1 set up is the real engine of anticipation. Devara: Part 1 (September 2024) ended on a deliberate fracture: the revelation around Deva and Vara’s dual identity, the coastal smuggling empire in flux, and Bhaira’s wounded pride promising retaliation. Part 2 is expected to detonate all of it — the succession war for the seas, Vara’s reckoning with his father’s legacy, and the full-scale confrontation the first film kept teasing. Trade chatter suggests Janhvi Kapoor’s role will be significantly bigger and more meaningful this time, after her limited presence in Part 1 drew criticism.
The cast is the least uncertain element. Jr NTR returns in the dual role of Deva and Vara, Janhvi Kapoor is back, and Saif Ali Khan returns as the antagonist Bhaira. Behind the camera, Koratala Siva directs, with Anirudh Ravichander’s music — a standout of the first film — expected to scale up further. Reports put the sequel’s budget in the Rs 400–500 crore range, roughly 30 per cent higher than Part 1, a bet that the franchise’s ceiling is far above what the first film touched.

There is also the question of timing within Jr NTR’s crowded slate. The actor’s calendar includes other major commitments, which is precisely why the producers locked a May 2026 start — a firm production window that puts the shelving rumours to rest. Trade buzz points to a Sankranti 2027 or summer 2027 release, the two windows big Telugu spectacles traditionally fight over.
The bottom line: Devara Part 2 is real, rewritten, and rolling cameras in May 2026 for a 2027 release. No exact date is announced yet. We will update this page the moment the makers lock one.
