The Capitol Heights Central Falcons opened the 2026 fall season with four straight wins before tasting defeat for the first time last weekend, sitting at 4-1 as the heart of the Maryland schedule arrives. Through five games, the Falcons have won with defense and toughness — holding every opponent to 22 points or fewer — and their Class 2A1A South league record keeps them in the regional conversation.
Central started Sept. 5 at home against Northwestern, winning 32-22. Five days later, the Falcons routed Baltimore’s Reginald F. Lewis 38-12, and on Sept. 19 they opened league play with a 32-20 win over Friendly. The Sept. 26 trip to Surrattsville was a gut-check: a 16-14 escape that moved the Falcons to 4-0.
Then came Oct. 3. Frederick Douglass of Upper Marlboro visited Capitol Heights and handed Central its first loss, 16-12, in a defensive battle that ended the unbeaten start. Now the schedule turns tougher: four games in October, three of them on the road, will define this season.

Game-by-Game Schedule
Saturday, Sept. 5 — vs Northwestern (MD) (Wildcats) — W 32-22. The opener. Central’s offense put up 32 at home to outlast Northwestern and start 1-0.
Thursday, Sept. 10 — vs Reginald F. Lewis (MD) (Falcons) — W 38-12. The most complete performance of the young season: 188 rushing yards and 71 through the air in a 26-point non-league rout.
Saturday, Sept. 19 — vs Friendly (MD) (Patriots) — W 32-20. League play opened with a 12-point win. The Falcons stayed unbeaten and built a Class 2A1A South cushion.
Saturday, Sept. 26 — at Surrattsville (MD) (Hornets) — W 16-14. A road escape in Clinton. Central gutted out a two-point win to reach 4-0.

Saturday, Oct. 3 — vs Frederick Douglass (MD) (Eagles) — L 12-16. The unbeaten run ended at home. Douglass edged the Falcons in a 28-point defensive struggle.
Friday, Oct. 9 — at Gwynn Park (MD) (Yellowjackets) — 6:30 p.m. A huge road test. Gwynn Park has been one of the area’s stronger sides this fall, and preseason projections rated this a steep challenge for Central.
Saturday, Oct. 17 — vs Largo (MD) (Lions) — 2:00 p.m. Back home in Capitol Heights. Largo arrives competitive, and this is the kind of afternoon game the Falcons need to bank.
Saturday, Oct. 24 — at Crossland (MD) (Cavaliers) — 2:00 p.m. Another road trip. Central’s defense travels well — this will test whether it does so again.
Friday, Oct. 30 — at Fairmont Heights (MD) (Hornets) — 6:00 p.m. The regular-season finale under the lights, and a short trip across Capitol Heights. A neighborhood rivalry feel to close the fall.
Season Notes and Highlights
The numbers tell the story of a defense-first team: across five games, Central has allowed just 80 points — 16 per game — and the two narrowest wins both came down to late-game toughness. The ground game has done the heavy lifting offensively, highlighted by the 188 rushing yards posted against Lewis.
The loss to Douglass is the pivot point. Before Oct. 3, the Falcons were trending toward a potential unbeaten fall; now they must prove they can bounce back on the road, where three of their last four games will be played. The blueprint exists: their only prior road game was that gritty 16-14 win at Surrattsville.
What’s Next
October is the season. At 4-1, the Falcons still control their playoff destiny, but the path runs through Brandywine (Gwynn Park), a home date with Largo, and road trips to Crossland and Fairmont Heights. Go 3-1 or better and Capitol Heights could be hosting a playoff game; stumble, and the Douglass loss starts to look like the turn. The first answer comes Friday night at Gwynn Park — Central’s biggest test so far.
