The Independence Central Panthers have been one of Oregon Class 4A’s most volatile stories this fall — and right now the arrow is pointing up. After a 1-3 start, the Panthers have ripped off back-to-back shutout wins to pull even at 3-3, outscoring opponents 147-109 on the season. Three district games remain, and Central’s momentum couldn’t be arriving at a better time.
The season opened with a statement: a 42-7 road rout of Tillamook on Aug. 28. The next three weeks humbled the Panthers — a 45-12 home loss to Dallas, a heartbreaking 17-13 defeat to Banks, and a 40-7 loss to Cascade Senior in the 4A Special District 2 opener. Then came the reset: a 38-0 blanking of Philomath on Sept. 25, followed by a 35-0 road shutout of Molalla on Oct. 2. Two clean sheets, 73-0 scoring margin, and a perfect 2-0 road record on the year.
Game-by-Game Schedule
Friday, Aug. 28 — at Tillamook (Cheesemakers) — W 42-7. A dominant non-league road opener; the offense fired on all cylinders.

Friday, Sept. 4 — vs Dallas (Dragons) — L 45-12. The home opener went sideways as Dallas’ offense proved too much.
Friday, Sept. 11 — vs Banks (Braves) — L 17-13. A heartbreaker. The defense held the 3-0 Braves in check, but a late push fell four points short.
Friday, Sept. 18 — vs Cascade Senior (Cougars) — L 40-7. The district opener. Cascade, arriving 3-0, set the league’s standard and handed Central a third straight loss.
Friday, Sept. 25 — vs Philomath (Warriors) — W 38-0. The turnaround began: first shutout of the year, offense back in opener form.
Friday, Oct. 2 — at Molalla (Indians) — W 35-0. Back-to-back clean sheets and a second straight 35-point win — all on the road.

Friday, Oct. 9 — at Stayton (Eagles) — 7:00 p.m. A district road test against a winning Stayton side. Central’s 2-0 away record and the shutout streak make this winnable.
Friday, Oct. 16 — vs Gladstone/Riverdale — 7:00 p.m. Friday night in Independence against a struggling opponent — a must-handle game for a surging team.
Friday, Oct. 23 — at Estacada (Rangers) — 7:00 p.m. The regular-season finale. Estacada is competitive in league play, and postseason seeding could be on the line.
Season Notes and Highlights
The story of Central’s season is October’s defensive awakening. After surrendering 109 points in the first four games, the Panthers have allowed zero in the last two — the kind of midseason transformation that changes a season’s ceiling.
Junior running back Braden Osullivan is the workhorse, averaging 129.0 rushing yards per game. Senior wideout Ryan Perkins leads the receivers at 70.3 yards per game with three total touchdowns, while junior Tyler Olafson has two passing and three rushing scores. Senior Josiah Vela anchors the defense at 9.0 tackles per game with an interception.
Central competes in Oregon’s 4A Special District 2, where the Panthers are 2-1 in league play after the early loss to Cascade. With Stayton, Gladstone/Riverdale and Estacada still ahead, a strong finish could set up a meaningful postseason conversation.
What’s Next
At 3-3 with a two-game win streak and a defense that hasn’t been scored on in two weeks, the Panthers are peaking at exactly the right time. Friday’s trip to Stayton is the immediate test — a win there would extend the streak and the perfect road record alike.
A handled home stretch after that would give the Panthers a winning record entering the 4A postseason picture. For a team that was 1-3 and trending the wrong way in mid-September, that’s a remarkable turnaround. The schedule data was last updated Oct. 5, 2026, per MaxPreps.
