Sunday, October 25

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pack two cities, three major engagements and a sweep of themes — manufacturing, air power and financial infrastructure — into a single day on Sunday, 25 October, travelling first to his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and then to Bhubaneswar in Odisha.

The day begins in Varanasi, where the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate a garment facility of Arvind Ltd at around 11 in the morning. The facility underlines the push to expand labour-intensive manufacturing and textile-linked employment in eastern Uttar Pradesh, a region where the government has repeatedly pitched Varanasi as a hub for industry alongside its identity as a spiritual and cultural centre.

From the factory floor, the Prime Minister will move to Namo Ghat on the banks of the Ganga, where he will be the chief guest at the Indian Air Force’s ‘Wings Over Ganga’ aerial display at around 1 pm. The display is expected to draw large crowds to the riverfront, with fighter aircraft and formation teams putting on a show over one of the most recognisable stretches of the Ganga.

Aerial displays of this kind have become a familiar instrument of public outreach for the armed forces, bringing air power closer to citizens far from air bases and air shows. For Varanasi, the event also folds into the city’s riverfront transformation, with Namo Ghat itself a product of the recent redevelopment of the ghats.

Later in the afternoon, the Prime Minister will travel to Bhubaneswar, where at around 4:45 pm he is scheduled to inaugurate the Reserve Bank of India’s Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute. The facility speaks to a quieter but no less consequential priority: the security and resilience of India’s financial infrastructure at a time when digital payments and online banking touch nearly every household.

The RBI’s data and cybersecurity capacity has grown in step with India’s digital payments revolution. A dedicated training institute signals an effort to build a deeper bench of specialists who can defend banking systems, payment networks and financial data against cyber threats that are growing more sophisticated by the year.

The Bhubaneswar leg also carries political significance. Odisha, where the BJP formed its first government in 2024, has become a regular stop on the Prime Minister’s itinerary, and the inauguration of a national financial institution’s facility in the state capital fits the pattern of spreading major institutions beyond the traditional metropolitan centres.

Taken together, the three engagements trace the contours of the government’s current pitch: jobs through manufacturing in the morning, national pride and military capability at midday, and secure digital infrastructure by evening. It is a deliberately varied programme, designed to speak to different audiences in a single day’s news cycle.

The Varanasi visit will also be watched closely in the Prime Minister’s own constituency, where every visit is measured against the pace of development work. The garment facility inauguration adds a manufacturing milestone to a city more often associated with temples, tourism and the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.
