Wednesday, October 7

It’s been a bruising start to the 2026 fall football season for the Central Bronchos of Marlow, Oklahoma. Four games into the campaign, the Bronchos are still hunting their first win, having been outscored 128-36 across a demanding non-district slate. But the season’s most important chapter hasn’t been written yet: district play begins in October, and the standings reset for the games that decide playoff berths.

Central nearly broke through in its opener. On Aug. 27, the Bronchos hosted Velma-Alma and came within a two-point conversion of a season-opening win, falling 20-18 in a thriller. From there, things turned rough: a 48-6 loss at Elmore City-Pernell on Sept. 3, a 60-12 home loss to Grandfield on Sept. 11, and a 50-0 shutout defeat at the hands of Ryan on Sept. 18. Ryan entered that game ranked among Oklahoma’s top teams in its division, and the scoreline reflected the gap between the two programs right now.

Game-by-Game Schedule

Thursday, Aug. 27 — vs Velma-Alma (Comets) — L 20-18. Heartbreak in the home opener. Central pushed Velma-Alma to the limit but came up two points short.

Thursday, Sept. 3 — at Elmore City-Pernell (Badgers) — L 48-6. The Badgers pulled away decisively, dropping the Bronchos to 0-2.

Friday, Sept. 11 — vs Grandfield (Bearcats) — L 60-12. Grandfield’s offense ran wild in Marlow, handing Central its worst loss of the season at home.

Friday, Sept. 18 — vs Ryan (Cowboys) — L 50-0. A shutout loss to a ranked Ryan team brought the Bronchos to 0-4 entering the bye week.

Friday, Sept. 25 — at Snyder (Cyclones). One final non-district road game before district play — a chance to grab momentum heading into October.

Friday, Oct. 9 — vs Rush Springs (Redskins), district. The district opener at home. On3’s computer projections heavily favor the Redskins, so Central will need its best performance of the season.

Thursday, Oct. 15 — at Waurika (Eagles), district. A road district test against a beatable but solid opponent — one of the more realistic win chances on the slate.

Friday, Oct. 23 — at Alex (Longhorns), district. Another road district game, and again a contest where the Bronchos can compete if the defense tightens up.

Friday, Oct. 30 — vs Hollis (Tigers), district. The home district finale comes under the lights in Marlow.

Friday, Nov. 6 — at Cyril (Pirates), district. The regular season closes on the road at Cyril.

Season Notes and What’s Next

The numbers tell the story of the non-district slate: 36 points scored, 128 allowed, and losses to three programs that project as playoff teams in their own right. But the schedule was back-loaded for a reason — the district season is a clean slate, and every district game counts the same in the standings. The Oct. 15 trip to Waurika and Oct. 23 visit to Alex stand out as Central’s best opportunities to break into the win column, while the home district opener against Rush Springs on Oct. 9 will set the tone for the stretch run. For a young Bronchos roster, the measure of this season may not be wins and losses so much as visible growth in those final five games. Marlow football fans should keep an eye on the district table in late October — that’s where this team’s story gets written.
